Decent bike, ship at your own risk
Have ridden this bike quite a bit over the summer and a bit into the winter. After about a season of use, this bike has me a bit torn. I do enjoy it, but there are some things that leave me yearning for something more. To start, I'll discuss the pros. This bike uses a Shimano Sora drivetrain which is solid. You get a carbon fiber composite fork paired with a moderately lightweight aluminum frame. You also get great stopping power with the mechanical disc brakes. Overall, it is quite a fast bike with comfortable geometry. The cons: the bike really feels like it was assembled quickly on a factory line. After a few rides, a creaking sound started developing from the crank AND the fork (wheel bearing). Riding over any slight bump results in a bad creaking noise from the axle and fork contact (and keep in mind this is while the bike was fairly new). I have taken it to a LBS to see if they can diagnose the issue, but no damage was found and it just seems the tolerances aren't as tight. The handlebars arrived with a slight twist in them, so they aren't symmetrical (though I acknowledge this could be due to shipping). On the subject of shipping, one should know there is a greater chance of receiving damaged product; mine arrived with scratches on the rear-derailleur and front fork. However, to Decathlon's credit, they refunded me the cost of shipping. All in all, I got the bike for $1100 CAD on sale. Even at this price point, there are better options at your LBS. They may not come with some of the selling points this bike advertises, but they will likely be better in quality.

The RC500 is the best bike for the price. I don't think I have ever purchased a high-quality bike for a better price. Something to note, I had the bike mechanics adjust the lower gears and the chain, which was a bit loose, causing the gears to make noise when on the lowest gear. They modified it on the spot and informed me that the road bike had included bike servicing for the year, which is handy. In addition, I had them add SDP-compatible pedals with cleats ($55) and bike shoes ($60), removing the original pedals. I am in the six-foot height range, and the x-large version was a perfect fit. The bike is lightweight, thanks to the carbon-bladed fork and a light frame. The road bike was super affordable and functional. I am pleased with my purchase. I'm not sure if I mentioned how fast this bike is, but it is a machine for entry-level to advanced riders. It's perfect when riding uphill on an incline. I would recommend the RC500 road bike. On a side note, Decathalon has very affordable prices for quality athletic gear and products.

Poor Warranty experience.
Ive thought long and hard about writing this review as I generally dont think one individual's bad experience should be written into a review that is supposed to be representative of a product. I also planned on waiting until my issues were resolved before writing a review but with 4 months passed since initially reaching out to decathlon and over 30 emails sent back and forth and still no resolution I decided to just write it. I bought the bike over the winter. It was on sale for just under CAD 1000, which I felt was a great deal as the other bikes I was looking at with similar-level components were all $1500 or more. I bought it online and paid extra for shipping as there are no Decathlon stores near where I live. On my first ride, I ran into issues with the chain skipping on the cassette. On further inspection, the cassette had a significant wobble while freewheeling. I immediately reached out to make a warranty claim and was told a wobble on the cassette was normal. After explaining it was causing the chain to ski, Decathlon then spent some time trying to diagnose the problem. I sent multiple videos so the problem could be diagnosed remotely and then waited. I would have to pester Decathlon every couple of weeks to hear anything at which point I would be told to be patient as the technical team tried to identify the problem. Ultimately they were unable to diagnose the issue. Instead, I was asked to take it to my local bike shop (again no Decathlon stores for 1000km) so they could build a diagnosis and quote. At this point, Ill also add that I suggested doing this a couple of months into this process as my patience was wearing thin and I wanted to ride my new bike. I also suggested they could send a new wheel and Id send this one back if that would be better. My local bike shop identified the rear hub as the issue and decided I would need a new one. The quote for a hub and a wheel rebuild ran about $250 but as the quote itself didnt have the full diagnosis written into it (I relayed the diagnosis to Decathlon myself) I had to return to the bike shop and have them do the tech department's job for them. At this point, I just want to be able to ride my bike. When I initially noticed the issue the idea of this warranty process running into summer never even crossed my mind. I had planned a couple of bike packing trips for this summer and Ive now canceled the first one as I wait for my bike to be operational. I recognize dealing with warranty claims like this from a distance is challenging but 4 months is completely unacceptable. I deeply regret not spending the extra money to buy a bike from a reputable bike brand from my local bike shop. I do want to point out that every person Ive interacted with has been fantastic but the systems that are in place to deal with remote warranty claims are terrible.
