500 Fold-Away Bike Lock, Black

I used this lock on a Rockrider eST900 locked on to toe at bike rack on a van parked on a busy residential street immediately outside my house within 4metres of front door in full view of house and neighbours. The bike was also locked on with the locking strada straps. Judging those potentially insufficient (as it wouldn�t *look * locked on) I also used this lock so it was clearly �locked on” for the couple of hours while I sorted out food/bathtime/bedtime etc with my kids. 4hrs later as it was getting dark I went out to put bikes away to find rockrider had been stolen. The lock is not at all strong - the bike was taken with no noise and minimal effort apparently using merely mechanical bolt cutters. The stem resisted a first attempt at a cut but the joints are very weak and easily cut. As it is heavy yet not much stronger nor more theft resistant than a cheaper, lighter and much more basic cable lock I wouldn�t recommend this product. Some other models are reinforced around joints - however all designs of this type have an inherent weakness around the joints - it is just particularly weak and not reinforced on this model. If it�s an eBike you need gold level protection, the 5/10 rating is pretty vague and experience suggests this is minimal. Thankfully as bike was double locked and immediately outside the home theft is being covered by insurance, however, bike specific insurance would not be offered with this lock.

Folds Up And Fits Nicely On The Bike Frame, But May Not Be Suited For Use In Singapore Where Most Bike Parkings Are Of The Wheel-in Type. It Is Not Long Enough To Reach The Front Or Rear Triangle Of The Frame.

This lock is a little trickier than the normal U-locks, it take a bit of getting used to, but since I had my bike stolen and was using a combination lock and chain, this is what I went with as I do not want my new bike stolen. It is a little heavy, but folds neatly and the holder fits nicely on the bike as well.

Very sturdy bit of kit. Fits on my bike perfectly
